Almsgiving to Madhiwela Orphanage
My journey into social work began during my university days, and one of my most memorable experiences was organizing my first social work project. With the help of my friends, we decided to make a positive impact on the lives of people living in an orphanage.
The project was simple yet deeply meaningful. On the day of the event, we provided lunch for all the residents, ensuring they felt cared for and appreciated. Beyond that, we rolled up our sleeves and worked together to clean their living spaces and the home garden, creating a more pleasant environment for them.
While the physical work was rewarding, the highlight of the day was the connection we built with the residents. My friends organized entertainment activities, bringing joy and laughter to the children and adults at the orphanage. Watching their smiles and hearing their laughter was a moment of pure fulfillment—it made all our efforts worthwhile.
This experience not only taught me the value of giving back but also inspired me to continue engaging in social work throughout my life. It showed me that even small acts of kindness could create a ripple effect of positivity and make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
Since that first project, I have remained committed to social work, focusing on education, community development, and improving the lives of those in need. That initial experience laid the foundation for my passion for helping others, and it continues to drive me to this day.
