Guiding Futures: Supporting Students in Idulgoda, Kurunegala
For my fifth social work initiative, I returned to my hometown after completing my university studies and identified a rural school in the Idulgoda area of Kurunegala city. The focus of this project was to guide and support students in shaping their futures.
I conducted a special training program for Grade 11 and Advanced Level (A/L) graduates, helping them identify suitable fields of study and universities aligned with their career aspirations. This session aimed to empower students with knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their future.
Additionally, with the support of my family and friends, we donated subject-specific books for the school library as requested by the teachers, ensuring students had access to essential resources for A/L studies. To encourage a holistic learning environment, we also provided sports equipment and small gifts for A/L students and Grade 1 students.
This initiative brought smiles to many faces and reinforced my commitment to education as a cornerstone for community development.
